We at Triumph are committed to assisting our clients to live fully and joyfully, in spite of the many challenges that life and mental illness present. Finger-painting, as taught in Bryan Carey’s wise and open way, can be a therapeutic way to engage a wide range of clients and with a variety of issues. Beyond that engagement, the cathartic nature of this expressive art form makes it particularly well-suited to the Recovery model of intervention which Triumph embraces. |

As the Art teacher at Triangle Day School where I have been teaching K-8th graders for the last 12 years, I want to express my appreciation for Bryan Carey's finger-painting workshops. At the beginning of two first grade workshops, he presented an engaging history of finger-painting and then a brief most effective demonstration that culminated in each student's delightful, tactile, finger-painting where it was obvious that they were learning while having so much fun. And this happened a second time with my 4th grade students where he in the same magical way instructively engaged them as well. The atmosphere inside the classroom was exciting, delightful, creative, but most of all a calm joyfulness prevailed. |

Bryan Carey of the Shaw School has been an ideal artist demonstrator for the Hillsborough Arts Council events. For the last five years, he has been engaging young and old alike. The Council is aware that educational art opportunities for Hillsborough and the surrounding area are few and far between, and Bryan has been way out ahead in helping to fill that niche. We are grateful to have his services available to us. |

I am writing on behalf of Central Park School for Children to thank you and Jennifer Falchi for coordinating three finger-painting events for the students here and the community of downtown Durham. Our school’s association with the Shaw School and Studio has enriched us all immensely and we are truly grateful for your generous gifts of time, talent and expertise. |

What an amazing experience. A 6 week course taught by Bryan Carey on the Shaw Method confirmed for me that fingerpainting isn't just child's play.
I took The Shaw Fingerpainting Method class with my 76 year old mom. It was 6 weeks of pure joy as we reveled in each others creations while learning the art and history of fingerpainting.

Bryan Carey has been essential to the Chapel Hill Museum's success in
effectively exhibitng the Ruth Faison Shaw collection over an eight year period. Bryan's sharing of his vast knowledge of the collection, and the methods of Miss. Shaw's technique, has made him vital to the Museum's visitor's experience.

Fella, You've got magic in your instructional substance, style, methods and spirit.
My wife had invited me to visit her classes to photograph and observe you teach fingerpainting to her first and 4th grade students.
For 4 years as a Language Arts teacher, in both a university and a public middle and high school, and then subsequently as a Psychology professor for over 30 years at Duke and UNC - Chapel Hill, I taught not only the respective students in those subject areas but I also taught teachers to teach. Your enthusiasm, effective and endearing teaching methods - including content and warmth of personality style - immensely impressed me. Your skill in engaging their attention and facilitating their own fingerpainting experiences were delightfully gratifying to observe. The substance and skills of your teaching and your instructional passion were clearly manifest and very touching to experience.
I was very glad to be there seeing you so effectively do your thing.

When my 10 year old niece visited from California, I invited Bryan to offer her a private finger-painting session. With the patience and focus characteristic of him, Bryan engaged with Julia, asking about her interest and explaining the basic principles of finger-painting. For the next 90 minutes they painted side by side, each demonstrating the joy and exuberance of a child at play. Bryan's instinctive ability to connect with his audience on their level releases each participant to experience the exhiliration of creative play.
